What Do Braun Coffee Maker Error Codes Mean & How Do You Solve Them?

A Braun multiserve coffee maker has a range of error codes including e21, e19, e13, LID and more. In some cases, the solutions offered up in your machine’s user manual may not be enough to clear the errors. Learn what these error codes mean and how to actually fix them.

Braun MultiServe Coffee Maker Error Code “E21”

The Braun multiserve coffee maker displays the code E21 when the water tank is empty. If you don’t have enough water in there, fill it up. If it is full, you are probably very confused! The issue is what is known as an airlock. Basically, it means there is some air in the pipes that is preventing water from leaving the tank and entering the machine.

As a first step, try Braun’s simple advice. With the tank filled to the 50 oz line, lift it off the machine and then place it back firmly in place. Turn the machine off and then back on. If the error code remains, try lifting and lowering the tank a few more times. Turn the machine off and then back on again.

If the E21 error remains after you have tried Braun’s recommended steps, there are some other things you can try to prime your machine and clear the air lock. When you remove the water tank, look down into the machine and you’ll see a hole where the tank connects. Now you’ll need either a turkey baster or a thick straw like from a water or sports bottle.

If you are using a straw, put the straw over the hole, add a little bit of water to it, start the machine and then blow into the straw until water comes out the coffee maker. If you have a turkey baster, add water to it and put the tip into the hole. Turn the machine on and try forcing some water from the baster to go through the hole.

Braun MultiServe Error Code “E13”

Your Braun coffee maker will show an E13 error when the heating plate cannot reach the pre-programmed temperature for the type of drink you want to make. There are two instances where this is likely to occur.

The Brain multiserve coffee maker has an “over ice” function. When you want to make an iced coffee, you have to engage this “over ice” function and then fill your carafe full of ice before placing it under the basket. If you want to make an iced coffee, but you did not select the over ice function, you will get the E13 error because the machine thinks it is supposed to brew hot but the plate temperature is detecting the ice in the carafe.

To get rid of the Braun E13 error, unplug the machine and let it sit for five to ten minutes. Plug it in and reset the time before trying to use your coffee maker again.

Braun MultiServe Error Code “E19”

Error code E19 will appear on your Braun multiserve coffee maker when there is an issue with the position of the drink selector knob. You need to make sure that the knob is pointing directly at a size and not sitting in between two drink sizes. To clear this error, start by turning the knob all the way to the full pot position. Unplug the machine and let it sit for five to ten minutes. Plug it in and reset the time before trying to use your coffee maker again.

Braun MultiServe Error Code “LID”

Your Braun coffee machine will display the LID error when the coffee basket lid is not completely closed. If the lid seems like it is closed but you are still getting the error message, try this: unplug the machine, load in the coffee, close the lid and then plug the brewer back in and turn it on.

Braun Error Code “E01”

Unfortunately, when your Braun MultiServe coffee maker is showing an error code that is E01, there is an internal problem with the machine. It will likely need to be repaired so hopefully your machine is still under its warranty period. It is best if you call Braun Customer Service. The number is 1-888-977-3578.

Braun Coffee Maker Error Codes “E03” “E04” “E06” “E07” “E10” “E11” “E12” “E14” “E15” or “E17”

When you your Braun coffee maker is showing one of these error codes, hopefully a simple reset is all that you need. Unplug the coffee maker and let it sit idle for five to ten minutes before plugging it back in. Hopefully the error code is gone now. If it is still there, you should contact Braun customer support. The number is 1-888-977-3578.

Braun Coffee Maker Error Codes “E02” “E05” “E08” “E09” “E16” or “E18”

When you your Braun coffee maker is showing one of these error codes, you will need to perform a descale cycle. Before you start that, unplug the coffee maker and let it sit idle for five to ten minutes before plugging it back in. You’ll also need to order the Braun Descaler if you don’t have one handy.

The Braun descaler is the official cleaner made by Braun. It is the one they recommend you use to deep clean your unit. It is compatible with all Braun models, including the Braun BrewSense coffee maker. The solution contains lactic acid which is safe to use on aluminum. Each bottle has enough for two doses.

Once you have your solution, see my related post on how to descale a Braun BrewSense of MultiServe coffee maker.
