How To Make A Latte With Keurig That Tastes Great Hot or Iced

hot and iced latte

Lattes are a traditional hot coffee drink made with espresso and steamed milk. They are based on an Italian coffee called caffè latte, which translates to “coffee with milk.” Lattes can also be enjoyed iced. If you have a Keurig machine, you may be wondering how to make a latte with Keurig. Keep reading to learn more.

Can Keurig Make Lattes?

Can you make a latte with Keurig machines? Technically, the answer is no. To make a real latte you need to brew espresso. A shot of espresso is a highly concentrated coffee prepared under significant hot water pressure. Keurig machines cannot make espresso because the brewing process they use is not designed to achieve the needed level of high pressure. You would need an espresso maker or Nespresso machine for a true espresso. You can see my related post on the differences between Keurig and Nespresso.

What You Need To Make A Latte With Keurig

Even though you cannot make an authentic latte with a Keurig, you can get something pretty close. If a bold tasting and milky drink is what you are craving, here is what you’ll need:

Milk Frother

To make a drink that is like a latte, you will need to be able to froth milk. Unless you have the Keurig K-Cafe or Keurig K-Latte (only available at Walmart), your model does not have a built in milk frother. That means you will need to buy an accessory.

Keurig makes its own milk frother which is compatible with all machines. The Keurig frother heats up in just 3 minutes. You can use it to froth any dairy milk or soy and almond milk; however, generally speaking, whole milk or reduced fat milk tends to froth better than others.

Espresso Roast K-Cups

In addition to a frother, you’ll want to stock up on K-cups that try to replicate an espresso taste. Look for a dark roast or espresso roast. I think the K-cups shown below are the best pods for lattes.

HyperChiller For Iced Lattes

If you prefer to enjoy your lattes iced, you may want to buy a HyperChiller. I use mine every day during the spring/summer. It chills your coffee in just a minute or two before you pour it over ice. This helps minimize ice melt so that you can enjoy a latte that tastes deliciously milky and not watered down.
