Other Cleaning That Is Needed For OXO Coffee Makers

In addition to descaling your brewer often, you also need to keep up with daily cleaning. When you are done brewing coffee, remove the used grounds and dirty filter. Wipe down any residue in the basket. Clean the exterior of the brewer using a damp cloth. Never use a cleaning spray or other chemicals or any abrasive tool as those can damage the brewer.

Use hot water and a gentle dishwashing liquid to clean all removable parts at the end of each day. Be sure to handwash the carafe and lid since they are not dishwasher safe. Other removable parts can go in the top rack of the dishwasher. Cleaning these after each use will get rid of any coffee oils or residue that could impact the taste of your coffee the next day. If there are any stains in your carafe, try soaking it overnight with water and a little bit of dishwasher detergent.

How To Clean OXO Burr Coffee Grinder

If you use the conical burr coffee grinder from OXO too, you’ll also need to clean that. Just follow these steps. Note that the hopper and grounds container must be washed by hand. Only the coffee scoop is dishwasher safe.

  • Empty the bean hopper and then run the grinder for 10 seconds. This will clear any grounds or beans from the burrs and chute.
  • Unplug the grinder.
  • Remove the hopper by turning the knob inside the burr counterclockwise until you hear it click.
  • Clear any coffee beans that you may find between the grinder burrs.
  • Remove the upper burr by lifting the metal burr handle, twisting it counterclockwise, then pulling it straight up. You won’t be able to remove the lower burr.
  • Get a dry, small bristle brush and use it to clear the burrs and grounds chute. Make sure it is dry! You never want to use water or any cleaning agent inside the grinder.
  • Return the upper burr to its position. To insert it again, line up the indents with the tabs inside the lower burr. Then turn it clockwise until you hear it click into place. When you pull the handle up, the burr should not move. That means you replaced it correctly.
  • Wipe the grinder base and body with a soft damp cloth.
  • Replace the hopper. Align the tabs of the hopper with the notches in the grinder. Gently press down and then turn clockwise. You will hear the hopper lock into place.
