Nespresso Vertuo Cold Brew, Alto or Pour Over Pod Not Working

Are you having trouble with the large sized Nespresso pods? Many Nespresso Vertuoline owners are surprised to learn that pour over carafe pods, cold brew pods and alto XL pods only work with select models. Unfortunately, many people don’t realize this until after they have purchased them since the limitation isn’t very clear, especially in the Nespresso app. Keep reading to learn more.

Nespresso Pour Over Carafe Pod Not Working

Nespresso Pour Over pods make a very large 18 oz carafe of coffee, great for serving more than one person or if you plan to have multiple cups yourself. There are two flavors – a regular and a mild. Nespresso Pour Over Carafe pods will not work unless you have a Vertuo Next, Vertuo Pop, Vertuo Lattissima or Vertuo Creatista. If you have one of these four models and your pod is not brewing, see my related posts on how to fix a Nespresso machine that isn’t brewing.

Nespresso Alto / Extra Large (XL) Pod Not Working

Nespresso Alto XL pods make a large 12 oz mug of coffee. There are two flavors – Ambrato and Onice. Nespresso Alto XL pods will not work unless you have a Vertuo Next, Vertuo Pop, Vertuo Lattissima or Vertuo Creatista. This confuses a lot of longtime Nespresso users because prior to 2022 there were several Alto XL pods that could be used with all Vertuo models. However, those were discontinued and the barcodes on the new pods do not work with the older Vertuo models (Vertuo Plus, Vertuo and Evoluo).

Nespresso Vertuo Cold Brew Pod Not Working

Nespresso cold brew style pods make a large 12 oz mug of coffee, meant to be brewed over ice. Nespresso Vertuo cold brew pods will not work unless you have a Vertuo Next, Vertuo Pop, Vertuo Lattissima or Vertuo Creatista. If you have one of these four models and your pod is not brewing, see my related posts on how to fix a Nespresso machine that isn’t brewing.

Which Nespresso Vertuo Machines Can Brew The Largest Pods?

Only the Nespresso Vertuo Next, Vertuo Pop, Vertuo Creatista and Vertuo Lattissima can brew pour over carafe pods, alto XL pods and cold brew style intense pods. These are the only four machines that have the software required to read the barcode on these types of pods. Other Vertuo models will be unable to read these barcodes. If you try to brew one of these pods you will get a blinking red error light on the Vertuo Plus or a blinking orange error light on the Vertuo or Evoluo.

What Can You Do With Vertuo Pods That Are Not Compatible With Your Machine?

I would recommend reaching out to Nespresso support and trying to place a return or get a refund. If you shop for your Vertuo coffee pods on the Nespresso app, you may have been confused about the compatibility of these larger coffee pods with your machine. Rightfully so, in my opinion. If you are simply scrolling through and adding pods to your cart without clicking on the details, the app fails to display that these pods are only compatible with select Vertuo machines.
